A Different Sort of Love

"A man learns who is there for him
When the glitter fades and the walls won't hold
'Cause from then, rubble
One remains
Can only be what's true
If all was lost
Is more I gain
'Cause it led me back
To you"

-From Now On, The Greatest Showman

There is a line at which those who are false cease to cross. The boat has sailed, and those left at the bank care not whether those aboard ship make it safely to their destination, for they themselves are safe on shore. That is what I've found, anyway. Those who you think are your friends are there, then gone in an instant. They forget you instead of stepping up to the task of being your friend.
I was just listening to From Now On, and it struck me forcibly of this very fact. That those who are true will be brought out in times of the most severe loss. And, those who were only in it for their gain fade away forevermore. This has been good and bad for me. I hurt deeply and long for my friends- those who have forgotten me. But, I have a new respect and fulfillment from the ones who have stuck with me through thin and thick.

Written 10/26/18, and never published. I think this was too difficult for me to post at the time. I have left it almost exactly as is, without editing it.
